Our approach
We want every loan that starts on Dino Loan to be one the borrower understands and can repay. Dino Loan is not a lender, so we do not decide who gets a loan. We do decide which lenders and lending partners we work with.
Every lender in our network agrees by contract to follow the law, protect your information and use it only to review your request.
Licensed lenders only
We only work with lenders that are licensed in the states where they lend, and we check each lender's license before it joins. Today our lender partner in California is licensed by the California DFPI. Dino Loan does not work with lenders that operate under tribal law.
What we expect from lenders
We expect every lender partner to:
- Hold every license it needs in the states where it lends.
- Show you the amount, the fees or interest, the APR, the total you repay and the due dates before you sign anything.
- Never ask you to pay a fee up front to get a loan.
- Treat every applicant fairly, as fair lending laws require.
- Collect debts fairly and lawfully.
- Protect your information and follow privacy and data security laws.
- Follow the Military Lending Act and state limits on renewals and rollovers.
- Use your information only to review your request.
Truth in Lending
The federal Truth in Lending Act requires lenders to give you the key terms of a loan in writing before you sign. These include the APR, the finance charge, the amount financed, the total of payments and the payment schedule.
Read them, along with the rules on fees and late payments. If a lender does not give them to you, ask for them, and do not sign until you have them.
Fair lending
Everyone deserves fair and equal access to credit. The federal Equal Credit Opportunity Act makes it illegal for a lender to discriminate because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status or age, because you receive public assistance, or because you used your rights under consumer credit laws.
If you believe a lender treated you unfairly, you can file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau at consumerfinance.gov/complaint. In California you can also contact the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation at dfpi.ca.gov.
Fair debt collection
Dino Loan does not collect debts. Lenders and debt collectors must follow federal and state collection laws, including the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act where it applies and, in California, the Rosenthal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Under these laws, a collector generally may not:
- Call you before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m. your time, unless you agree.
- Harass you, use threats or abusive language, or call over and over to annoy you.
- Lie, or use false or misleading statements, to collect.
- Threaten arrest, or threaten a lawsuit or other action it cannot take or does not intend to take.
- Collect any amount your agreement or the law does not allow.
What Dino Loan does
- Shares your request with lenders and lending partners in our network, and with the service providers that help us run Dino Loan.
- Shows you the lender and what it offers before you continue.
- Tells you plainly when a lender offers less than you asked for.
- Keeps the service free for you.
What Dino Loan does not do
- Make loans or credit decisions.
- Collect debts.
- Charge you a fee, or ask you to pay anything up front.
- Promise that you will be matched or approved.
- Ask for your online banking password.
- Share your information with marketing partners.
Military borrowers
The federal Military Lending Act protects covered borrowers, who are active duty service members, their spouses and their dependents. It limits most consumer credit for them to a 36% military annual percentage rate. Our lender partner's loans cost more than that, so it does not lend to covered borrowers, and Dino Loan does not match their requests.
Renewals and rollovers
In California, a short term loan cannot be rolled over or renewed, and a lender may not make you a new short term loan while you have one outstanding with that lender. If you cannot pay on time, talk to your lender before your due date.
Borrow responsibly
Borrow only what you need, and only when you have a plan to repay it on time. Our Responsible Borrowing page has tips and other options.
Report a problem
If a lender in our network treats you unfairly, tell us at support@dinoloan.com. If you think you were targeted by a scam, read our Fraud page and report it to the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov.
